New target……

May 17, 2009

New target audience……..Please work on our ideas, we can push forward and get this done. If we really decide to bag our zero tolerance direction, then get going gang. Which I think since we have gotten this far, push forward with where we are at, completing it well. I think that our new target audience should be for the elementary schoolers, with early education on the right and wrong behavior during school.

Suspended for toy, is this fair or un-fair treatment?

Suspended for toy, is this fair or un-fair treatment?

Terrorizing children with inflexible rules is not the answer. School principals have always had the responsibility to make and enforce rules, and punish accordingly when those rules are broken. “Zero-Tolerance” laws take that responsibility away

I think that the “set rules” are overboard and it should be revised to taking care of each violation case by case. Until the law is tamed down, education is key to assuring lesser numbers in expulsions and suspensions for our kids in school. Lovemark, good behavior program.

More on……

Zero Tolerance, Zero Evidence: An Analysis of School Disciplinary Practice reports that there is no credible evidence that zero tolerance is effective. Furthermore, school suspension and expulsion result in a number of negative outcomes for both schools and students.

In 2005, the American Psychological Association created a task force to review the available research and to make policy recommendations. The task force report (December 2008) concludes that the available evidence does not support the use of zero tolerance policies as defined and implemented, that there is a clear need to modify such policies, and that the policies serve to create a number of unintended negative consequences.
